I was looking out of my house in Chico towards the northeast. My daughter was in the kitchen cooking dinner for me. It was evening, and there was still light in the sky. I could see a prominent distant mountain with many smaller peaks and hills. Just below the mountain to the southeast was a steep talus slope. Suddenly I saw rocks starting to roll down the hill. The stones continued to fall, and what began as a small rock slide grew into an enormous avalanche. I was a gasp! I hoped there was no one in the area. Before I could even comprehend the event's magnitude, the entire mountain range slid to the northwest. I knew several small towns were in that direction, and I perceived that the shifting mountain range likely consumed them.
I felt safe momentarily but realized the distant mountain had begun erupting. The sky became black, and there was fiery debris falling all around. The ground became scorched and smoldering as fiery stones fell from the sky. There were streams of lava everywhere. I knew there was a city of refuge to the south, so I grabbed my daughter, and we evacuated the house. Outside was a dirt highway that went north and south. Jeeps and other military vehicles were traveling up a down. It looked as if the whole earth was consumed with fire. We walked for a short distance, skipping over and even wading through streams of lava. Nothing seemed to harm us. We walked for a short distance, and then a voice spoke to me and said: “return to your house, and you will be safe there.” So, we returned to our house and were safe.
Psa 18:8-19 “In my distress I called upon the LORD, And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice out of His temple, And my cry for help before Him came into His ears. Then the earth shook and quaked; And the foundations of the mountains were trembling And were shaken, because He was angry. Smoke went up out of His nostrils, And fire from His mouth devoured; Coals were kindled by it. He bowed the heavens also and came down With thick darkness under His feet. He rode upon a cherub and flew; And He sped upon the wings of the wind. He made darkness His hiding place, His canopy around Him, Darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies. From the brightness before Him passed His thick clouds, Hailstones and coals of fire. The LORD also thundered in the heavens, And the Most High uttered His voice, Hailstones and coals of fire. Then the channels of water appeared, And the foundations of the world were laid bare At Your rebuke, O LORD, At the blast of the breath of Your nostrils. He sent from on high, He took me; He drew me out of many waters. He delivered me from my strong enemy, And from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me. He brought me forth also into a broad place; He rescued me, because He delighted in me.”
